Our Journey
Decades of Innovation
From humble beginnings to a global movement, here's how we got here.
Early 1979
The Lab Gruppen Story
Lab Gruppen founders Kenneth and Dan built handmade, durable consoles from repurposed electronics, leading to a stadium debut with Eartha Kitt.
1979
From Mixers to Amps
Lab Gruppen launched with a 2,000 SEK investment, creating the SS 300 and the AXE-AMP, a favorite of blues legend Johnny Winter.
1980
Local Heroes
The success of the SS 1000 made Lab Gruppen Sweden’s leading amp brand and a global touring standard, while the SS 1400 solidified its status as a full-line power partner.
1986
Breakthroughs
Lab Gruppen introduced the Intercooler heatsink and the R.SMPS breakthrough, using the SS 1300 to set a new global standard for power density.
1988
Class TD and DSP
Lab Gruppen developed the patented Class TD topology, combining Class B audio quality with Class D efficiency, first featured in the LAB 2000. This era also introduced the DSP 24 for high-precision filtering and VIEW, the brand's first Windows-based control software.
1998
Evolution
The LAB 4000 evolved Class TD into the high-output fP Series, leading to a next-gen four-channel platform that doubled power again with integrated networking and simplified architecture.
2000
Consolidation
Acquired by TC Group in 2002 alongside Tannoy and TC Electronic, Lab Gruppen expanded and moved to its current headquarters in Kungsbacka, Sweden.
2005
C Series
Launched in 2005, the C Series was a flexible 4-channel platform for fixed installations, offering 24/7 reliability and networked monitoring that set a new global standard for power density.
2007
FP+ Series Launched
The FP+ Series delivered record touring power, while the C...X models optimized large installations. This peaked with the PLM Series, the first "Powered Loudspeaker Management" system integrating Dolby Lake processing.
2009
Lab Gruppen Acquires Dolby Lake Processor Technology and Lake Brand
Lab Gruppen acquired the Lake brand and launched the LM 26 processor. In 2010, the TEC Award-winning PLM 20000Q doubled power output, cementing their dominance in Powered Loudspeaker Management.
2012
A Brilliant IDEEA
The E Series introduced sustainable IDEEA technology, utilizing Rail Sensing Limiters and Asymmetric Loading to maximize power-sharing efficiency for permanent installations.
2013
Decentralize
LUCIA brings decentralized amplification and DSP directly to the speaker, while the IPD Series packs high power, AES3, and networked DSP into a compact 1U rack unit.
2014
The New Integration Superpower
The D Series is built for 'true open interoperability,' integrating seamlessly with all major digital audio and control protocols. This flagship installation line includes the D Series Slimline, offering a scalable, high-performance solution for any venue regardless of power requirements.
2015
Music Tribe Acquires the TC Group
Music Tribe (parent of Midas and Behringer) acquired TC Group, uniting these iconic brands to drive industry-leading collaboration and integrated audio solutions.
2018
Lab Gruppen Delivers the PLM 5K44
The PLM 5K44 delivers 5,000W with integrated Lake DSP and Dante, using Rational Power Management (RPM) to dynamically optimize power distribution for pro-touring reliability.
Today
